Trainee Oliver wins the newsquiz with 21

I have just finished a busy and enjoyable first week with eight Daily Mail trainee sub-editors. They studied Mail style, edited stories and wrote intros and headlines. The best headline of the week award went to Zoe Glascow and the best intro to Oliver Jervis. Both won scratch cards. The trainees had sessions with managing editor Alex Bannister, chief reporter Sam Greenhill, production editor Chris Dean and they edited articles for deputy chief-sub Tom Belcher who gave them detailed feedback. We finished as usual with the newsquiz, 25 questions about the week. The winner was Oliver with 21 points, narrowly ahead of Emily Bell on 20 and Amelia Perry on 18. The top solo scorer in last week’s newsquiz was Janet Boyle with 22, just ahead of George Mann on 21, Robert Rea on 18 and the Rev Leon on 15. The top team was Maura and Phil Parsons with 21, ahead of Adam Batstone and the Mountain Men with 20, The Broad Oak drinkers with 16 and Our Peter and Jackie and Peter, Stacey and Les with 15. Here is this week's newsquiz. Give it a go and see if you can beat Oliver's score.
