Amelia wins the newsquiz with 19

The Daily Mail trainee subs have just finished their second week in Kensington. They edited a breaking story, took copy from PA and turned it into Mail style, wrote headlines, captions and read proofs. The best picture headline of the week went to Myriam Page who won a scratch card. They pitched stories to chief reporter Sam Greenhill and had sessions with night editor Andy Gregory and senior sub Tina Moran. Editor Emeritus Peter Wright gave guidance on the editor’s code and they spent an afternoon with the Mail’s lawyers. Today they did a Q&A with a panel of former trainees, Rachel Petticrew, Josh Thory-Rao, Erin Waks and Kristina Wemyss who told them what to expect in the first year. As usual we finished the week with the newsquiz, 25 questions about the week. The winner was Amelia Perry with 19 points, just ahead of Oliver Jervis on 18.5. The top solo scorer in last week’s newsquiz was George Mann with 23, ahead of Janet Boyle on 22, Oliver Jervis on 21, Emily Bell and Marion Fountayne on 20, Amelia Perry and Robert Rea on 18 and the Rev Leon on 16. The top teams were Maura and Phil Parsons and Tony and Christine Smith with 21, ahead of Bruce and Sarah Hayward on 19, Our Peter, Jackie, Bill, Trev and Carole on 18 and Adam Batstone and Lucy Thorpe on 17.
