Trainee Tom wins the newsquiz

I have spent this week with nine bright Daily Mail trainees in Kensington. They have written stories, had safety training and met members of the Mail's editorial team. They had a welcome from group managing editor and editorial director Alex Bannister and assistant managing editor Mary Omogbehin went through the practical issues. The trainees had sessions with senior editors Andy Milne, Dan Sanderson and Sam Marsden. One of last year's trainees Bella Machin talked about her journey. Trainees Lotte Micklethwaite and Livvy Mason-Myhill won scratch cards for writing the best intros of the week. As always, we finished with the newsquiz. There were 25 questions about the week and Tom Layton won a scratchcard for his impressive score of 20. Emily Driver scored 18 and Tara Russell and Evie Selby both got 16.

The top solo scorer in last week’s newsquiz was George Mann with 21, ahead of Robert Rea and Janet Boyle on 20. The top team was the Green Man festival posse of Adam, Lucy, Lou, Joe, Tim, Kay, David and Dawn with 23. The Tillingham Tipplers of Thom, Tim and George scored 22 as did Alex and Leigh. The Port Camargue oyster crew of Oli, Vic, George and Rex scored 21, the same score as Maura and Phil Parsons and the Barnard Castle FOC of Bill, Sarah, Malcolm, Trev, Carole, Our Peter and Jackie.
