Chris and Izzy lead in newquiz battle

The MailOnline trainees have had a busy second week in Kensington. They pitched stories to head of exclusives Dan Sanderson and sports editor Olly Todd. One story by trainee Chay Quinn, on Manchester aiming to be only the third city to win football’s European double, has been published already. Read it here. 

There are more stories in the pipeline. The trainees also had sessions with deputy Femail editor Steph Linning, deputy head of video Olivia Bateman, assistant managing editor Paul Hutchinson, travel editor Ted Thornhill and senior reporter Mark Duell. One of last year’s trainees Kate Dennett popped in to offer some useful practical tips. As usual we did the newsquiz. This week’s winner was Chris Matthews on 19.5 narrowly ahead of Izzy Baldwin on 19.

Last week’s newsquiz appeared to be a little tougher with online scores below average although Janet Boyle scored a healthy 20, just ahead of Jayme Bryla on 19. Robert Rea scored 17, the same as last week’s course winner Chris Matthews. Toby Brown scored 16 and Gavin Devine and Mail trainee Lizzie May 15. The top team was Simon, Sue and Will Cole with a huge 23.5.
