Farewell to the Daily Mail Australia trainees

Wade Zaglas with the newsquiz champagne in front of fellow trainees (left to right) Mary Mrad, Wade Sellers, Thomas Duff, Tom Place and Shive Prema

I said goodbye to the Daily Mail trainees in Sydney on Friday. They had an intense final few days getting stories published, covering a breaking news story in real time and drawing up a newslist for their start in the newsroom on Monday. They enjoyed sessions with senior journalist Stephen Gibbs, executive editor Lachlan Heywood, social media editor Cameron Carpenter and former trainees Matilda Rudd and Holly Hales. The trainees also had another five stories published on the Daily Mail Australia site - bringing their total during the course to 11.

Shive Prema wrote about the dark secrets behind the song Waltzing Matilda. Read it here.

Thomas Duff found a story about a 3D graphic which shows a Japanese submarine that was sunk in Sydney Harbour during World War II. Read it here.

Tom Place wrote a story for Femail about the odd things an escort carries to work each day ... including a pacifier.

Wade Zaglas had two stories published. One about a grieving mother who is upset with the Australian government after her daughter was killed while backpacking. Read it here

Wade also wrote a fun story for Femail about the petty reasons people give for ditching their dates. His story is here.

On Wednesday evening the trainees joined the senior staff for drinks at the All Hands Brewing House on Darling Harbour. A good night was had by all.
