Aloysius wins the newsquiz Champagne

The trainees in Northcliffe House this afternoon. Aloysius (fourth from left) collected the newsquiz Champagne
The Daily Mail trainees had another busy week in Kensington. They had sessions with consultant editor Andrew Pierce, weekend editor Amy Marley and editor emeritus Peter Wright, who went through Ipso and the editor's code. On Wednesday they had a day with the lawyers. Associate night editor Chris Dean and Katherine Cowles, from last year's course, gave talks to the subbing trainees. Trainee Kathryn Batte spent time on the sports desk and her story on England's record at St Mary's, before Tuesday's game against Kosovo, was published. You can read it here

As always we finished the week with the newsquiz. The joint top scorers this week are Kumail Jaffer and Lewis Steele who both scored 17.5. The highest scoring reporter over the two weeks, though, was Aloysius Atkinson who won the Champagne. Well done to him.
The reporters now head off to their placements in Dublin, Glasgow, Liverpool and Birmingham. I wish them well and look forward to their success stories. The subs have another two weeks of training in London.
The newquiz was done at the same time by the Press Association's trainees and the top scorer was Rebekah Evans with 16.
In last week's quiz Aloysius's score of 20 was unbeaten by the online players. Liz Gerard scored 19 and Lydia Willgress 17. The top teams were Bruce and Sarah Hayward and Adam Batstone and Lucy Thorpe, both on 18. Here is this week's quiz. As usual there are 25 questions about the week. Give it a go and see if you can beat Lewis and Kumail's 17.5?
